Danish Minister of Culture: Caroline is a role model

af  Eline Andersen
As one of the very best in a big global sport such as tennis and without precedent, there is no doubt that Caroline Wozniacki increases Denmark’s exposure world-wide, says Denmark’s Minister of Culture, Per Stig Møller, which labels the Danish tennis darling as a “fantastic athlete and role model”. Sport Event Denmark is one of the partners behind the event.

Per Stig Møller continues in the WTA-magazine for e-Boks Sony Ericsson Open 2010: ”Her true fighter spirit and winner mentality are unique. And she demonstrates to other Danish athletes that no matter how fierce the international competition may seem in a certain sport, there is always a chance to do well and even win sometimes. Having said that, it is a must to work hard and show talent, but also it is a prerequisite that he right facilities are at hand, enhancing the athletes’ development.”

The Minister of Culture, who is an active tennis player himself and recently went to London to see Caroline Wozniacki play the prestigious Wimbledon tournament, is pleased that Denmark is now hosting a WTA-tournament.

Per Stig Møller believes that the hosting of major international sports events, in general,  is a good investment and he is convinced that the WTA-tournament in Farum Arena, starting on 2 August, is a unique display window for the promotion and branding of Denmark.

Per Stig Møller rounds off: “The major events on Danish soil are likely to generate substantial spin-offs and strengthen Denmark’s position of the world map. And also, I do believe that they create excitement and interest in sport in the local community as well”.
